SOMALIE - Prolongation de la Mission d’assistance des Nations Unies (MANUSOM)

En concertation avec le Gouvernement fédéral somalien et les États membres de la Fédération, une résolution du Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU, votée mardi dernier, a prorogé d'un an le mandat de la Mission d'assistance des Nations Unies en Somalie (MANUSOM). La mission est donc maintenue jusqu’au 31 octobre 2024.

Cette mission vise à aider le Gouvernement de Mogadiscio à maintenir la stabilité du pays et à protéger le territoire national, lequel est fortement  menacé par les activités du groupe terroriste Al-Shabab ainsi que par la présence de groupes affiliés à l’EIIL (Daech).

La MANUSOM va par ailleurs accompagner le Gouvernement fédéral somalien pour la tenue "d'élections libres et régulières, au moyen de processus inclusifs et transparents aux niveaux national et local, selon le calendrier convenu".

SOMALIA - Extension of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNSOM)

In consultation with the Federal Government of Somalia and the member States of the Federation, a United Nations Security Council resolution, adopted last Tuesday, extended the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) for one year. The mission is therefore maintained until October 31, 2024.

The purpose of the mission is to assist the Government in Mogadishu in maintaining the stability of the country and protecting the country's territory, which is under serious threat from the activities of the terrorist group Al-Shabab as well as the presence of ISIL-affiliated groups (Da'esh).

UNSOM will also support the Federal Government of Somalia in the holding of "free and fair elections, through inclusive and transparent processes at the national and local levels, according to the agreed timetable".
